Local choir and orchestra group, Athenry Music School, are hosting their annual fundraising concert on Monday 24th April in aid of Galway Simon Community. The ‘Celtic Voyage’ concert is taking place at 8pm at the Raheen Woods Hotel in Athenry, where over 100 kids and adults will take to the stage for an evening of Irish and American style music and song in support of the local charity.

Performers from the Athenry Youth Orchestra and the Cor le Cheile Community Choir will be joined on the night by special guests all the way from Vancouver, Lord Byng Secondary School Wind Ensemble, directed by Dr. Scott MacLennan.

Katharine Mac Mághnuis, co-director of the Athenry Music School, shared the personal reason for choosing Galway Simon Community as the beneficiary of the concert. “I busked for two years when I was 17 in Dublin. I would have known a lot of homeless people at that timeand I always felt that it is easy to forget that they’re people too. We would like to support homelessness and that’s why we picked our local homeless charity, Galway Simon” said Katharine.

“It means a lot for us in the Athenry Music School to be able to support our local community through this fundraiser. We believe that when you work within a community, you have to also serve that community. Within the music school we teach the kids to give an active welcome to new members so that people don’t feel isolated and we try to put this into practice in our local community too”, Katharine added.

Concert tickets cost €10 for general admission, €5 for concession and children go free. For tickets and more information, click the button below or contact Amy on 091 381828.BUY TICKETS
