Leave a Legacy
Pulling together is the West's oldest tradition.
Keep it alive with a gift in your will.
Could you consider leaving a gift in your Will to Galway Simon Community to help those facing homelessness?
That kind of consideration says a great deal about the person you are — thoughtful, compassionate, and deeply connected to the well-being of others. People like you embody the spirit of meitheal, that quiet, local pride in our home and the tradition of communities pulling together to ensure no one is left behind.
By including a gift in your Will, you are joining a wonderful group of people who are determined to keep this tradition alive for the next generation. Your kindness will ensure the West remains a fairer, kinder place for everyone who calls it home.

A will is an important life document and is an act of love for those you leave behind. When writing your will, your family and friends will of course come first but you might also consider including a gift to Galway Simon. A Legacy Gift can allow you to make a difference into the future, and it is tax free. We recommend you consult a solicitor when making your will. Solicitors often help clients to draw up their wills and act as executors of estates, as they are trained and experienced in the legal processes involved.
We receive all kinds of gifts from our generous supporters in their wills. We are grateful to receive sums of money, sometimes a portion of an estate after all other gifts have been made, and even specific items. Everything we receive is put to good use, preventing people from becoming homeless and providing a safe place to stay.

Jane and Bernard supporting future generations with a gift in their Will.
“My husband Bernard and I moved to the West nearly five years ago, and we feel incredibly lucky for the warm welcome we received. Now in our late 60s, when we sat down to make our Will, we wanted to leave something behind that could continue to do good long after we’re gone. I was raised with the belief that you get more out of giving than getting, and that idea has stayed with me throughout my life. I’ve worked many different jobs over the years, and those experiences taught me that we all have a responsibility to support one another. That’s why the concept of meitheal really resonates with me.
I’ve always loved second-hand shops, and that’s how I first came across Galway Simon. If you visited our home, you’d probably understand why I jokingly call it the Galway Simon showroom. But for us it’s about more than just finding a bargain. It’s about giving things a second life. As we got to know the team at Galway Simon, we realised that’s exactly what they do for people too: offering support, new skills and the chance to rebuild their lives. Leaving a gift to Galway Simon in our Will feels like the perfect way to say thank you to the place and the people who made us feel so at home.”

A simple way to keep your kindness alive in the West
“If you are reading this, I imagine you are someone who has spent your life looking out for others. You’ve already shown the kind of quiet generosity and humanity that defines our community here in the West, and perhaps you’ve wondered how you can ensure that spirit lives on for the generations to come.
A gift in your Will is a truly special way to do just that. It’s about much more than a legacy of support; it’s a way to pass on your values. It ensures that the compassion you believe in today, that sense of meitheal of us all pulling together, will be there to support others in the future. I would love to chat with you to find out what matters most to you and to help you explore how your kindness can continue to protect the people and the place we love to call home.
So please, do get in touch. It’s just a chat, with absolutely no obligation and of course completely confidential. You can email me at fintan.maher@galwaysimon.ie or call me on 091 381835.”
