Galway Simon Communitys Dip at Dawn LaunchGalway Simon Community’s second annual Dip at Dawn will take place on Friday 5th July at 5:16am at Ladies Beach in Salthill. Participants will gather at sunrise to greet the morning sun with a short yoga session followed by a dip in the sea. The event will raise both awareness of and funds for those facing homelessness in Galway.

The yoga Sun Salutation will be led by Yoga Shala co-owner, Laragh Cunningham and her team, while Catriona Lynch of Ebb and Flow will lead the dip in the sea. The Jungle Beach Cafe will also be on hand to serve hot drinks to warm people up after the swim.

Last year’s Dip at Dawn saw over 160 people participate on the longest day of the year with the event receiving huge support from those who took part, as well as those in the wider community.  Participants said that the event was “invigorating”, “refreshing” and “the most fabulous thing”. One participant commented “It was a great cause and a beautiful idea. Lovely to share such a moment with others.”

With the growing homelessness crisis in the West, the local charity are encouraging people to get involved in this year’s event and help to make a difference.

Deirdre Treacy of Galway Simon explained how participating in Dip at Dawn can help to make a difference in the lives of those facing homelessness locally.

“The crisis in the West is at its worst point since Galway Simon Community was established 40 years ago. Far too many women, men, young adults and children are experiencing the trauma of homelessness. That is why were are asking people to take action this year, to help more people on their Journey Home, and Dip at Dawn is the perfect way to do this”, Deirdre said.

“By taking part in Dip at Dawn, you are helping us to raise vital funds to support people in our local community who may have no place to call home or are facing the fear of homelessness. We are asking people to take a short time out of their morning and take part in a fun event, to help others on their Journey Home”, Deirdre added.

Registration for the event is €25.
