Galway Simon Community have been announced as a charity partner for this year’s Achill Half Marathon & 10K Run. The event is on Saturday 2nd July on Achill Island, Co. Mayo with the Half Marathon starting at 10:30am and the 10K at 11am.
“We’re delighted to have been nominated as the charity partner of this year’s Achill Half Marathon & 10K Run”, says Amy Lavelle, Community Fundraiser at Galway Simon Community. “Taking place at the heart of the Wild Atlantic Way, the course has tough climbs and high speed descents, which is very different to our previous runs that were flat and fast. This run would be perfect for anyone who is looking to challenge themselves this summer.
“We’ve been allocated 150 places which means that 100% of the registration fee for all charity entries will go directly to ourselves and North West Simon Community, who are the other beneficiary. Participants can also fundraise on our behalf if they would like to make a further contribution. The event is registered on the Galway Simon Just Giving page and we can send out sponsorship cards to anyone who is interested.”
Amy highlighted the need for the organisation to fundraise due to the increased demand in their services. “We’re working with over 200 people at the moment and this number is constantly rising due to the housing crisis where high rents are continuing to push more people into homelessness. We’re not fully funded by the state which means it’s essential for us to fundraise to ensure we can continue providing services to the local community.”
The entry cost for the Half Marathon is €60 and for the 10K is €30. For information and registration details, visit www.galwaysimon.ie.
