Bring the Spirit of Christmas to your School, Workplace, or Community this year!
Galway Simon Community urgently need your support so we can continue to protect families facing the trauma of homelessness this Christmas.
Families are facing into an incredibly difficult time this Winter with record high levels of homelessness experienced across the country and the lowest availability of affordable accommodation. This perfect storm is being compounded by families facing food and fuel poverty. Right now, record numbers of families across the West are living in Emergency Accommodation or on the brink of losing their homes. For so many families Galway Simon are the only thing standing between them and homelessness.
We have several fun and festive ways for you to support families facing the trauma of homelessness this Christmas.
1. Host a Christmas Jumper Day in your workplace, school or community
Wrap up in your warm festive woollies and pledge to donate €5 (or more) for corporates and €2 for students.
2. Donate a Gift Voucher
Help provide practical and immediate support by gifting a Voucher for groceries, toys or fuel to families and individuals this Christmas.
3. Purchase a Gift of Impact
By purchasing a Galway Simon Gift of Impact you can help bring food, heat, electricity, health, education and wellbeing to individuals and families facing the trauma of homelessness this Winter.
4. Join us for the Schools Sprint for Simon
From December 1st, we are calling on students to get active by doing a sponsored walk, jog or run in December. This could be running a lap around your school yard or local pitch every school day for the month of December, organising a sponsored relay, or a morning session of sponsored sprints – the choice is yours!
5. Take part in our Winter Solstice Dip at Dawn
As the winter solstice Sun travels its shortest path through the sky offering us the shortest day and longest night we invite you to join us for a Dip at Dawn at Salthill Beach in solidarity with families facing the fear of homelessness this Christmas. Come together to celebrate this ancient seasonal rite of passage from darkness into light and the brighter days to come.
You can also organise your own Christmas Fundraiser!
If you would like to organise your own fundraising event, we are here to support you all the way. There are so many fun ways for you to raise funds for those facing homelessness in our community. And we’ve got lots of great ideas, tips and advice to get you started.
The are so many ways to get involved! Hold a bake sale, a Christmas raffle or design your own Christmas decorations and sell them to your friends and family. Whatever it is you would like to do, get in touch! We’d love to hear from you.
